The Palestinian envoy to Iraq has said Sudan is willing to take in Palestinian refugees who are stranded on Iraq's borders with Syria and Jordan.
The offer came after Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir received a letter from the Palestinian leader, Mahmoud Abbas.

The UN refugee agency has expressed concern over the deteriorating conditions for the hundreds of Palestinians in camps on the borders.

They have tried to leave Iraq, but have been refused entry by Jordan and Syria.

Palestinians have felt especially vulnerable to the violence in Iraq as they enjoyed generous financial support from former government of Saddam Hussein, who championed the Palestinian cause.

Their healthcare, school and housing were subsidised and many received government jobs, leading to resentment among many Iraqis.

The UNHCR estimates about 34,000 Palestinians currently live in Iraq. Between 200 and 300 have been killed since the US-led invasion in 2003.

Yup,great, let's accommodate the Palestinians since some of our people's shelters/houses have not been destroyed in the recent deluge and the Darfurians are living in mansions!

Govt trying to whitewash? or is it a one-on-one with Israel?

Indeed it is a nobel cause Missy, and as a Sudanese I would be more than happy to be host to any refugee but what angers me is this bloody government that does not give a **** about it's own citizens and is busy doing some idiotic publicity crap... go and help your own people first... what will these refugees come to Sudan for?

waw!!!!!!! all the problems sudan is having as of NOW and they decide that Iraq and Palastinians come first?!!

and its as if iraq's and palastineans care about "sudan" or the people of sudan in the first place!

tell me again WHY? are they helping them?!

i mean its like you have "maintance" problems in your house such as your basement is being flooded or your heater/airconditioner doesnt work or your toilet doesnt flush, are you really gonna go to your naighbor? and solve his/her toilet problem first?! or you gonna HELP and FIX your problem so ur family can relax and rest @ their home?!!

i mean really!!!!!!!!

and im not gonna say awwwwww thats such a good thing cuz it would be a good thing if sudan was a stable and well off country THEN it would be nice of sudan to do that, but now its just nothing but fakenss to me and its stupid and its pissin me off!!

I was thinking the same thing until I realised that these people, were firstly kicked out of their homes in palestine, then in Jordan, and now they live in 'no man's land' in tents in iraq - the single most messed up country on this planet.

On top of that, no country is willing to accept them - as they have no nationality - they are no longer allowed to return home wherever that may be. They are being dragged around the middle-east like they are useless cargo.

I dont think the sudanese government is giving them mansions and landcruisers. maybe just some stability and a feeling of being wanted.

Im proud of the government's actions in accepting them. Hopefully they will be accepted in sudanese society and be able to contribute.

I understand your point of view and Palestinians have always been welcomed in Sudan they are treated as Sudanese citizens in terms of obtaining an education, work and healthcare. As Sudanese we are very welcoming people as any East African who took refuge in Sudan will tell you, but what we are talking about is idiotic PR campain of the Sudanese government.

Sudan has over 2 million IDP's from the war in the South and another 2 million from the war in Darfur, how about some effort here? Aren't the Sudanese themselves more worthy of any assistance the government has to spare? Keep in mind that we are a country that recieves AID to accomodate it's own people....

"your people come first"? i think the sudany goverment (since it loves helping people) should help its own people first. Then worry bout the others.

I think if the refugees were from a war in a neighbouring country, then I would agree, but I was refering to these people in particular, the ones stuck without anything and being rejected by everyone. They number a few hundred, maybe a thousand. They would live in sudan, but I have heard that other Arab country's would be donating for their welfare (which is typical of the arab nations - throwing $ at problems).

I entirely agree. To help the refugees in Sudan, would mean dealing with the root problems or else there is no point in building homes for them etc.

البرازيل تستقبل 35 لاجئا فلسطينيا قادمين من العراق



بلدان عدة رفضت استقبال مئات اللاجئين الفلسطينيين العالقين بالرويشد (رويترز-أرشيف)

وصلت إلى البرازيل أول دفعة من لاجئين فلسطينيين قضوا نحو ثلاث سنوات معلقين في مخيم الرويشد بالصحراء الأردنية بعد أن نزحوا من العراق في أعقاب الغزو الأميركي لبلاد الرافدين عام 2003.


وقد وصل 35 لاجئا فلسطينيا أمس الجمعة إلى ساو باولو. وتعتبر تلك المجموعة أول دفعة من أصل 117 لاجئا يتوقع أن يصلوا إلى البرازيل قبل نهاية العام الجاري.


وحسب مصدر في المفوضية السامية للاجئين التابعة للأمم المتحدة فإن المجموعة الأولى من اللاجئين الفلسطينيين انتقلت عبر الأردن وإسبانيا قبل الوصول إلى البرازيل.


ولدى وصولهم إلى البرازيل اختار 25 لاجئا التوجه إلى إحدى مدن ولاية ساو باولو جنوب شرقي البلاد فيما اختار العشرة الباقون التوجه إلى ولاية ريو غراندي دو سول (جنوب). وقد اختار اللاجئون تلك المناطق لكونها تضم جاليات من أصل فلسطيني.


وفضلت مفوضية اللاجئين عدم كشف أسماء المدن التي توجه إليها اللاجئون الفلسطينيون إلى حين تسوية أوضاعهم، مشيرة إلى أنهم سيسكنون طيلة عامين على الأقل في شقق أو بيوت وفرتها المفوضية.

وأضافت المفوضية أن اللاجئين الفلسطينيين سيحصلون على بطاقات هوية برازيلية تسمح لهم بالاستفادة من الخدمات الصحية الحكومية وبولوج المدارس وفتح حسابات مصرفية.


وكان مخيم الرويشد -وهو واحد من مخيمات عدة أقيمت في الصحراء الأردنية- يؤوي نحو ألف شخص فروا من العراق بسبب الأوضاع الأمنية المتردية التي تلت الغزو الأميركي لذلك البلد في مارس/آذار 2003.

وتحمل الغالبية العظمى من اللاجئين الفلسطينيين في المخيم الرويشد وثائق سفر مصرية أو لبنانية أو سورية، لكن جميع هذه الدول رفضت استقبالهم رغم الجهود التي بذلتها منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية، كما أن إسرائيل رفضت السماح بعودة هؤلاء إلى الضفة

emlnsan ive been wondering the same thing! maybe its all for money i mean all those palastinians might open up buisnesses and have more success than the sudany buisnesses and buisness owners, and the goverment is gonna eat up a handful of the money palastinians will bring in!
